Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Molluscum is a viral skin infection that causes small, smooth, pearly bumps, often with a tiny dip in the centre. It is not the same infection as HPV genital warts.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Chlamydia is a common bacterial sexually transmitted infection. It often causes no symptoms, but it can cause burning urine, discharge and health problems if untreated.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Gonorrhoea is a bacterial STI that may cause burning urine or discharge. It can also infect the throat or rectum without any noticeable symptoms.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Genital herpes can cause painful, grouped blisters or small sores. Some people have very mild symptoms or none at all, and the infection can sometimes recur.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Syphilis is a treatable bacterial STI. It can cause a painless sore, a rash including the palms or soles, or no symptoms at all. Blood tests need careful interpretation.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Chancroid is an uncommon bacterial infection that can cause painful sores and sometimes tender swellings in the groin. Other, more common ulcer causes must be checked.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
Donovanosis is a rare infection that may cause a slowly growing ulcer that can bleed easily. A long-standing sore needs examination because other infections or cancer may look similar.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →
HIV is a virus that affects the immune system. Testing—not symptoms alone—shows whether someone has HIV. Modern treatment helps people with HIV live long and healthy lives.
Symptoms, tests and treatment →Illustrations do not depict genital anatomy and are not real clinical photographs. Symptoms can vary.
A dermatologist trained in venereology can assess genital skin changes, discharge, burning urination, unusual blood-test results or possible exposure. There is no one-size-fits-all STI panel, and some infections have no symptoms.
A routine urine culture is not the same as a test for chlamydia or gonorrhoea. The sample and timing depend on the symptoms and exposure.
A positive herpes antibody test is not proof that a current sore is genital herpes. Fresh lesions may be tested by HSV PCR/NAAT.
Syphilis test interpretation depends on the titre, confirmatory results, previous treatment and symptoms. Do not self-treat based on one report.
Not every genital bump is an STI. HPV warts, molluscum and skin tags can look similar but have different management.
Some exposures need urgent PEP assessment within 72 hours. Do not delay emergency care for a scheduled appointment.
For a visit at Maheshwari Hospital, Dalanwala, Dehradun, an appointment enquiry can be brief. You can discuss intimate details during the consultation.
You may be worried about what a positive test means, whether a partner can be affected, or how to discuss a personal symptom. A respectful clinical conversation helps you move from uncertainty to an appropriate care plan.

An examination is done only when relevant, after explaining why it may help.
The right samples depend on the symptom, exposure site and time since contact.
No assumptions about how or when an infection was acquired; partner conversations are handled carefully.
Medical confidentiality is subject to applicable law and professional obligations. WhatsApp is used for appointment enquiries; avoid sending intimate photographs or a detailed sexual history in your first message.
You do not need to know which STD you have before booking. We begin with your actual concern, not a fixed list of tests.
Explain symptoms, exposure, test reports and worries at your own pace.
Examination is offered only when it may help and with your informed consent.
Blood, first-catch urine or swabs may be suggested according to the situation and test window period.
Discuss medication, procedures or referral when indicated, plus prevention and partner advice.

Yes. Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HPV, herpes, syphilis and HIV may cause few or no noticeable symptoms at certain stages. Testing decisions depend on the type and timing of exposure.
Not always. Some tests may be appropriate immediately and others later because of window periods. Your clinician can advise which tests are useful based on the exposure, symptoms and medical history.
The right test depends on the cause. Ordinary urine culture checks for common urinary bacteria, while chlamydia or gonorrhoea usually needs NAAT using an appropriate urine or swab sample.
No. HSV IgG indicates past exposure and does not by itself confirm an active genital outbreak. If a fresh sore is present, a lesion swab for HSV PCR/NAAT is often preferred.
Do not panic or self-medicate. RPR/VDRL results need clinical context and usually a treponemal test such as TPHA/TPPA. Previous treatment and titre values matter.
PEP is a time-sensitive emergency option after a qualifying exposure. It should begin as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours; seek urgent medical evaluation without waiting for a routine appointment.
Usually not from a single test or symptom. Many STIs can remain unnoticed for long periods, so assumptions about the source or timing can be misleading.
You can send a simple appointment enquiry via the booking link. Discuss sensitive details with the clinician at the visit. Do not send intimate photographs unless a suitable clinical communication channel and consent have been established.
